Meat Loaf

The meatloaf has European origins; meatloaf of minced meat was mentioned in the famous Roman cookery collection Apicius as early as the 5th century. Meatloaf is a traditional German and Belgian dish.

Ingredients

1 1/2 Lb ground beef

2 (8 oz) cans tomato sauce

1 C soft breadcrumbs

2 eggs, slightly beaten

2 T dried minced onion

3/4 t salt

1/4 t pepper

2 t dried parsley

1 t worcestershire sauce

Procedure

Combine ground beef, 1/2 cup tomato sauce, breadcrumbs, eggs, onion, salt and pepper, mix well.


Shape meat mixture into a loaf. Place on rack of a lightly greased broiler pan.  Bake at 350ºF for 1 hour.


Combine remaining tomato sauce, parsley, and worcestershire sauce, stir well. Pour over meat loaf, and bake an additional 5 minutes.
